Futon Care Guide

A Zen.Rest futon asks for five minutes a week. Here’s exactly how to spend them.

Daily — 30 seconds

Fold the futon after waking. This exposes the underside, releases overnight moisture and keeps the core fresh. Stand it on its edge for a few minutes if you can — gravity and airflow do the rest.

Weekly — 5 minutes

  • Air: stand the folded futon near an open window for a few minutes.
  • Rotate: swap head-end and foot-end for even wear.
  • Refresh: vacuum or brush the cover briefly.

Monthly — wash day

  • Unzip and remove the cover (under a minute).
  • Machine wash at 30°C with mild detergent. No bleach, no fabric softener.
  • Line-dry or tumble-dry low. Re-fit once fully dry.
  • Give the inner core an extended airing while the cover dries.

Storage

Store the futon tri-folded in its included storage bag, in a dry place. Vertical storage (standing in a wardrobe or corner) is ideal. Avoid compressing it under heavy objects or storing it in damp basements.

Please avoid

  • Soaking or machine-washing the foam core itself.
  • High-heat tumble drying of the cover.
  • Ironing directly on the cover’s zip area.
  • Leaving the futon unaired on the floor for weeks at a time.

Stains & spot cleaning

Blot (don’t rub) with a cloth dampened in mild soapy water, then air-dry fully before use. For anything more serious, the washable cover is your first line of defence — that’s why it’s there.
