Our Story

Zen.Rest was born from a bad back and a small apartment.

Our founder spent a year working in Osaka, sleeping — sceptically at first — on a traditional shikibuton in a 22m² flat. The scepticism lasted about two weeks. The better sleep, the extra floor space, the calm of a room that reset itself every morning: those lasted. Back home, nothing on the market came close. Western “futons” were sofa-bed mattresses; real Japanese shikibutons were beautiful but demanded daily sun-airing and re-fluffing that city life doesn’t allow.

Tradition, engineered

So we built our own. Zen.Rest futons keep the form and philosophy of the shikibuton — low, firm, foldable, honest — and add what modern materials do best: a seven-layer construction with a PVA memory sponge core for pressure relief, breathable fabrics that manage moisture overnight, and a machine-washable cover. The ritual stays five minutes; the comfort lasts all night.

What we believe

• Sleep well with less. A bedroom shouldn’t be a furniture showroom.
• Rooms should breathe. The Japanese concept of ma — purposeful empty space — guides everything we design.
• Care should be simple. If maintaining a product takes more than five minutes a week, we’ve designed it wrong.

Two futons, shipping across Australia and the United Kingdom — fulfilled via Amazon for fast, tracked delivery and backed by 30-day returns. We’re a small brand and we like it that way: every review gets read, and every question gets answered by a person.
