Zen.Rest Japanese Futon Mattress

Tried this on the floor and it's not too thin, it's not quite thick enough to be comfy, depending on how thick the carpet is, although a child may be comfy, however I use this as a mattress topper for a blow up guest bed and it makes all the difference to a good night's sleep. This futon mattress keeps clean with the mattress cover that is included, folded over it makes a comfy seat, it's well made and because it's easy to fold it's easier to store. This is fairly portable, so could possibly be used when camping or a mattress topper to make a firm mattress more comfy.

I've had this for when I have all the family stay as it's ideal for one of my grandchildren to use. It comes packed in plastic with the air removed so once opened it springs into shape. I left it for 3 days and then checked it and found it has opened up perfectly. It's nicely padded and although not very deep it is very comfortable. The materials used appear to be of good quality and carefully stitched. What makes it great is the bag to store it in, which brings it down to a reasonable size. There is also a mattress cover provided. Very pleased with it.

Another way to describe this is that it is a very thick mattress topper.

I have already had two naps with this. One for 3 hours and the other for about 6. The second one shouldn't have been that long but I was so comfortable that I decided to give myself the day off and continue to sleep.

Whilst my bedroom is being renovated, I am sleeping in the kids room on the floor and although their carpet is soft, it is still not great sleeping on the floor with a few sheets and duvet for padding.

I don't have a single mattress to put down on the floor and airbeds, due to my 160kg weight, pretty much cave in and I end up touching the floor still. This is a great middle ground and it is as comfortable as described. I would be surprised if anyone thought differently. All you need is a good pillow to match.

I'd rather fold this up and put it in a cupboard but it is rather easy to roll it up and get it in to the storage bag using the straps that are provided.

I'd recommend this to anyone I know as an alternative to an airbed.

I think culturally the way we sleep in the west is largely very different to more eastern parts of the world and it's important to be aware of the differences when considering a product like this and temper expectations appropriately.

This is a very high quality futon/tatami mat floor mattress. It's not intended to function like the pocket sprung or 30cm deep memory foam mattresses we're use to and is intended for people who enjoy sleeping on a more stable and firm surface but without their bones and extremities pressing up against the hard surface. It is something that you need to take time to acclimatise to and can offer some surprising benefits if you put the time in to do so.

It's a compact and lightweight sleeping surface, it's easy to store and the supplied bag keeps it nice and clean when not in use.

I actually find it very comfortable and it's a nice way of spending time sitting at floor level for playing with your kids or pets or huddling around a coffee table to play a board game with friends.

It's well made and the material quality is excellent. It's a great example of a soft and comfortable floor mattress in my opinion and well worth the asking price.

I have been floor sleeping for a few months now to relieve the back/shoulder pain I was getting from a regular mattress. I bought a quite thin sleeping pad to try this out and after a couple of months decided I wanted to move to floor sleeping full time. I bought this mattress to add just a touch more luxury to my sleep.

It's well made and the included sheet is a bonus with this as it's not something you often get and they are expensive to buy separately. It also comes with a carry bag. I got the twin size and find this size perfect for one person (and sometimes my medium sized dog!) I left it to 'puff up' for a couple of days as instructed, but being honest it never increased more than it already had in around the first 4 hours or so. It's not the thickest but trying it on its own, it was comfortable enough for me. Others that aren't used to floor sleeping might not feel that way though. Combined with my existing sleep pad, this is perfect. It's lightweight and easy to fold or roll. I have not tried getting it in the bag though. It does need to be aired after each use and then can be folded away. I store it under my sofa.

I give this 5 stars as for the price with the sheet and bag included, it's great value compared to some. However I fully understand this style of sleeping is not for everyone and that some wouldn't find this thick enough.
